Objectives of the Programme
At the end of the programme, the student will be able:
- To uphold the academic standard designed by the College, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
- To become professional Nursing or Midwifery practitioner capable of assuming professional responsibilities in healthcare setting.
- To contribute to the National Health manpower development to meet MDG 4, 5 and 6 goals. (KIV)
- To acquire research knowledge and awareness in Nursing or Midwifery Education. provide a focus for the development and maintenance of high professional standards in Nursing.
- To promote and sustain public welfare through qualitative Nursing practitioners who will provide safe, acceptable, effective services. Specifically, the student will: (THE BULETTIN CAN TAKE ANOTHER FORM)
- Apply the knowledge of biological, behavioural and nursing science in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care.
- Utilize the nursing process in providing comprehensive nursing care to individuals and families in the community.
- Establish positive working relationship with the individual, family and the community and motivate towards self-reliance in matters of health protection, promotion, maintenance and rehabilitation.
- Function independently and in collaboration with other members of the health team and related sectors in the planning, delivering and evaluating health care.
- Supervise the clinical experience of nursing and allied health workers in all clinical setting and community.
- Develop the capacities of competent Nursing Practitioners to effectively provide family planning services in homes and hospitals.
- Apply the principles of primary health care in providing comprehensive, continuous and personalized care in home, College and health care institutions.
- Apply management principles in the optimum utilization of human and material resources for health care delivery.
- Update knowledge and maintain professional growth through participation in continuous education programmes.
- Display positive altitudinal behavior in client/community care and amongst other health team members.
- Contribute to research by assisting in conducting and. participating in projects and implementing findings geared towards improving health care services and nursing education.
- Through her contribution and intervention, the Midwife will reduce to the bearest minimum maternal and child mortality rate.
- Assess the basic health needs of the community and nursing process to provide comprehensive, nursing and midwifery care.
- Identify risk factors in obstetrics and take appropriate actions to address them.
- Function independently and in collaboration with other members of the health team and related sectors to ensure a healthy environment.
- Sensitize, mobilize and educate individuals, families and groups in order to effect positive changes in the reproductive pattern of the community.
- Knowledgeably and skillfully utilize information and education to improve reproductive health care services.
- Collaborate with the community to improve the reproductive health status of women and others in the community.
Duration of Programme
- Basic Nursing Programme => three (3) successful years.
- Basic Midwifery Programme => three (3) successful years and one-year mandatory community service as stipulated by Nursing and Midwifery Councils of Nigeria.
